Sports Beijing has teamed up with Beijing Ao Fan Sailing Club to offer an introductory learn to sail program at the Shunyi Olympic -Canoeing Park. Aspiring young sailors will first learn safety aspects before progressing to understanding the anatomy of a sailing boat and how to ‘rig’ it. On the water they will be taught how to sail both upwind and downwind. At all times there will be an instructor in a lead boat and also another instructor following behind in a motorized dinghy. Initially students will learn to sail in ‘Optimist’ boats with more capable sailors progressing to larger boats as they develop their sailing skills.

Towards the end the course students will take part in some friendly races on a simple course laid out around the lake.  Note that initially instruction will be in Chinese although an English translator will be available.
